Medical dramas - 2

Let me dissect out what I see in each of these shows:

Grey's Anatomy focuses on young people struggling to be doctors and doctors struggling to stay human. It's the drama and intensity of medical training mixed with the funny, sexy, painful lives of interns who are about to discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.
My thoughts – I love this show for the relationships between the interns. There is a great dynamic between these friends yet at the end of the day they are competitors. It’s amazing how these people are so different in terms of their approach in medicine and personalities yet they make such great friends. I start to wonder whether I would befriend myself if I have a chance! Scary thought…

Dr. Gregory House is a brilliant diagnostician who loves the challenges of the medical puzzles he must solve in order to save lives. He is devoid of bedside manner and wouldn't even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. While his behaviour can border on anti-social, House is a maverick physician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts have afforded him a great deal of respect.
My thoughts – The cases that present to House are never really what they seem. A lot of time and thinking are invested to dig out the clues and solve the medical puzzles. House is not always what his colleagues may perceive either. In reality, people tend to jump to conclusions too quickly. To truly get to know a person or understand a situation requires a lot of patience and time. Not everything is always what they seem.

Healing Hands reveals the life tensions in emergency rooms and the challenges (both personal and professional) faced by a group of hospital workers. It follows the lives of nurses and doctors who experience such touching matters as continuous ups and downs, romance, laughter and tragedy reflect various social issues.
My thoughts – The series has come to its third season which is pretty rare for HK television. The main message I think it is sending out is that at the end of the day no matter how brilliant the doctors are, they are humans too. Throughout the series, some of them go through illnesses and some endure the excruciating pain of the passing of their loved ones. They suffer through the horrible feeling of helplessness and even emotional breakdowns. But ultimately, every one of them just wants to love and feel loved. Sure each character has a very unique story and goes through hardship and success but I think it’s the interactions of this network of friends that make them so special.
