Go Occerettes!

A few of the girls in the lab have formed a ladies indoor soccer team called Occerettes recently and we are playing weekly in a nearby sports stadium. Our intention was just to go out and have fun, and last night was our first (and long-waited) match. Before this match, none of us have played or practised together so it was a “we’ll see what happens” attitude. Some of us actually arrived just in time for the kick-off so obviously warm-up or figuring out the rules and playing positions were out the door. The match is separated by 2 halves of 20 minutes. It doesn’t sound a lot but believe me, by the 7th minute of the game, I was worn out. We kept hanging in there and by half time, we were only allowed one minute of water! But in summary, we won by 5-1 at the end of the day. We all had a great time and I think each of us surprised each other how well we played. The only moment that tainted the night for me was one of the opponents bad mouthed towards me in the last few minutes of the match and refused to shake my hand. Oh well, another bitter loser!
